Special Abilities

Art for Special Abilities Program

For over ten years, Paola has worked with young adults on the autism spectrum, using art as a meaningful and empowering way to communicate, build confidence, and develop independence. Each lesson is thoughtfully tailored to the student’s unique strengths, interests, and communication style, creating a safe and encouraging environment where creativity can flourish.

Supports Independent Living Skills

Students develop essential life skills through the artistic process including goal setting, decision-making, problem solving, time management, task completion, and personalresponsibility. These skills help support greater independence in everyday life.

Vocational Development & Career Exposure

This program goes beyond traditional art instruction by introducing students to the real-world experience of professional artists. Students work throughout the year to develop a personal body of work, build a portfolio, and learn how to confidently introduce and present their artwork to others. Families and students are also invited to attend Paola’s professional art shows throughout Southern California to observe and understand how artists exhibit and sell their work.

Community Integration & Social Development

Students become part of a supportive creative peer community where they build meaningful relationships through shared artistic goals. Throughout the year, Paola celebrates each student’s progress through social media features that help students become familiar with one another and feel connected before meeting in person for exhibition preparation.

Real-World Exhibition Experience

Students participate in two professionally organized gallery art exhibitions each year where they can showcase and sell their artwork. This milestone experience encourages communication, social interaction, confidence when engaging with the public, and financial awareness through earning income from their creative work.

Through Paola’s reach to over one million art lovers, students gain meaningful exposure and encouragement from a broad artistic community that celebrates their creativity and accomplishments.
